An unidentified man was electrocuted to death on Tuesday, December 29, while attempting to vandalize an electricity transformer situated at the Limkokwing University of Creative Technology at Hill Station.
The Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) confirmed the fatality in a press release issued on Wednesday, December 31, 2025.
According to a joint investigation conducted by EDSA and the Sierra Leone Police (SLP), the deceased had attempted to illegally interfere with the transformer while it was in full operation. The report revealed that during the attempt to detach the Medium Voltage Riser, the individual suffered a fatal electric shock.
His body was later discovered lying next to the transformer. EDSA and the SLP arranged for the transfer of the remains to the Connaught Hospital Mortuary to initiate burial proceedings.
The utility company noted that this tragedy is not an isolated event. EDSA reported that similar fatalities resulting from attempted theft and vandalism have recently occurred in Bo, Kenema, and other parts of Freetown.
In their statement, EDSA strongly condemned the persistent attacks on its infrastructure, warning that such actions not only disrupt the power supply to communities and institutions but pose extreme risks to life.
“EDSA wishes to use this opportunity to remind the public that all electricity infrastructure are extremely dangerous and should only be handled by trained and authorized personnel,” the statement read.
The Authority has urged the public to report any suspicious activities around electrical facilities to the nearest police station.
