The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has clarified details regarding the accident involving police officers on January 17, 2026, at Mile 91, which occurred during President Julius Maada Bio’s trip to Bo.

According to the police, the officers involved were part of a highway patrol team, not the presidential convoy. The team was on routine duty when the accident occurred, while the presidential convoy had already departed and was in Moyamba.

The SLP confirmed the death of three officers, while others injured in the accident are receiving treatment and are being closely monitored by the institution.

Police have urged the public to verify information before sharing, emphasizing that reports claiming the presidential convoy was involved are false.
