Police officers stationed at the Maforkie Checkpoint have intercepted a vehicle transporting suspected cannabis sativa and arrested two individuals in connection with the seizure.

The interception occurred on Thursday, 6 February 2026, during a routine security check on a vehicle travelling from Freetown to Kambia. The vehicle, with registration number AVE 473, was stopped at the checkpoint and found to be driven by Abu Bakarr Kamara of Waterloo.

According to police sources, a thorough search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 21 parcels of suspected cannabis sativa concealed inside. Following the discovery, Anita Koroma, a resident of Peninsula Road in Waterloo, was also arrested for her alleged involvement in the suspected drug trafficking.

Both suspects, together with the recovered exhibits and the vehicle, have been taken to the Port Loko Police Station, where investigations are ongoing.
