Sierra Leone’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom has held a high-level engagement with the Mayor of the London Borough of Camden, Councillor Eddie Hanson, in a meeting described as warm and forward-looking.
The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral ties and reinforcing cooperation at both national and local levels, particularly in light of the deep-rooted historical and cultural connections between Sierra Leone and the United Kingdom. With Councillor Hanson tracing his heritage to Sierra Leone, the engagement also highlighted the growing influence of the Sierra Leonean diaspora in public life across the UK.
Both leaders emphasized the importance of people-to-people diplomacy, social cohesion, and inclusive governance in multicultural cities such as London. They acknowledged the critical role local authorities play in promoting diversity, supporting communities, and delivering essential public services.
The meeting further explored opportunities for collaboration between Sierra Leone and local government institutions in the UK, including knowledge exchange and community partnerships aimed at benefiting citizens in both countries.
The engagement reflects Sierra Leone’s ongoing diplomatic outreach and its commitment to strengthening relations with partners across the United Kingdom, while recognizing the important contribution of the diaspora to development and international cooperation.
