The process of selecting a new Paramount Chief for Bombali Sebora Chiefdom in Northern Sierra Leone has officially begun. Eight candidates from the chiefdom’s four ruling houses have declared their intentions to contest the position.
The event took place at the Chiefdom Administrative Building in Makeni and was overseen by Prince Soriba Yillah, Provincial Secretary of the Northeast Region, who is working closely with Tribal Authorities to vet the aspirants.
The Tribal Authorities are verifying candidates’ eligibility, ensuring they meet the necessary criteria, including being members of one of the recognised ruling houses that existed in the chiefdom prior to Sierra Leone’s independence on April 27, 1961.
Bombali Sebora, a major chiefdom in the Bombali District with its headquarters in Makeni, had a population of 36,407 as of 2015. The chiefdom has been under the leadership of a Regent since the passing of Paramount Chief Bai Sebora Kasanga II, who served from 1993 until his death in 2023.
The election is scheduled for 11 April 2026, with the successful candidate set to assume the Paramount Chieftaincy.
The occasion attracted hundreds of supporters, showcasing local culture and traditions, including the revered Poro secret society. Security was heightened, with a strong presence of law enforcement ensuring the event remained peaceful.
Residents of Bombali Sebora are eagerly awaiting the outcome, hoping the new Paramount Chief will bring development and prosperity to the chiefdom.
