A somber atmosphere enveloped the capital as supporters and party officials gathered to receive the remains of the late Chairman of the All-People’s Congress (APC), Hon. Alhaji Minkailu Mansaray, at the party’s headquarters in Freetown.

The arrival marks a significant moment of mourning for the main opposition party. Hon. Alhaji Minkailu Mansaray died in Dakar, Senegal, on June 15, 2026.

Party loyalists, dressed in the APC’s signature red, lined the streets and filled the headquarters compound to pay their final respects to a man who had been a cornerstone of the party’s leadership for decades.

Alhaji Minkailu Mansaray leaves behind a lengthy and impactful legacy in Sierra Leonean politics. A devoted member of the APC since his youth, he rose through the ranks to become a central figure in the country’s governance.

His extensive career included serving as an elected Member of Parliament from 2002 to 2007. Following the APC’s electoral victory, he was appointed Minister of Labour and Employment, a position he held from 2007 to 2010 and more.

As the remains of the late Chairman rest at the APC headquarters, party executives are expected to announce further details regarding his funeral ceremony.
