Officers of the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) attached to the Waterloo Checkpoint have arrested a suspect after he was allegedly found in possession of an unlicensed pistol loaded with 16 rounds of live ammunition.
The suspect, identified as Tejan Jabbie of New London, Kossoh Town, Freetown, was arrested on Tuesday, 14 July 2026, during a routine checkpoint operation conducted by officers of the Waterloo Police Division under the leadership of the Local Unit Commander, Superintendent Bankolay Mansaray.

According to the police, the suspect was travelling in a vehicle with registration number ARQ 600 when officers conducted a search and allegedly discovered the firearm and ammunition.
Following the arrest, the suspect, together with the recovered pistol and rounds of ammunition, was handed over to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for further investigation.

The Local Unit Commander of the Waterloo Police Division has reaffirmed the division’s commitment to maintaining effective checkpoint operations aimed at preventing the movement of illegal firearms, combating crime, and enhancing public safety.
The police said investigations into the matter are ongoing.
