The Tankoro Police Division, in close collaboration with the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA), has dismantled an alleged electricity meter theft syndicate operating in Koidu City, resulting in the arrest of two suspects and the recovery of three stolen electricity meters.
According to the Sierra Leone Police, the suspects, Ibrahim Lebbie and Aiah Mbayoh, are currently in police custody at the Tankoro Divisional Headquarters, where they are assisting the police with investigations into the alleged theft of EDSA electricity meters from various locations across the city.
Additionally, according to the police report, the investigation commenced following separate reports from three complainants: Sheikh Kabineh Mansaray, the District Chief Imam of Kono; Mr Alpha Jalloh; and Mr Mohamed, who each reported the theft of their electricity meters to the police.
Upon receipt of the complaints, the Local Unit Commander (LUC), Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Dr Sahr Nyuma, immediately tasked a team of investigators with tracing those responsible. Through a coordinated operation with EDSA personnel in Kono, the police swiftly arrested the two suspects.
Furthermore, the Preliminary investigations indicate that Ibrahim Lebbie allegedly stole the electricity meters and sold them to Aiah Mbayoh. A subsequent search led to the recovery of all three stolen meters from Mbayoh’s possession.
Finally, the suspects remain in police custody while investigations continue.
