The National Revenue Authority (NRA) has commended its outgoing Commissioner General, Mrs Jeneba J. Bangura, following her appointment as Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
President Julius Maada Bio announced Mrs Bangura’s appointment on August 11, 2026, as part of a wider cabinet reshuffle. Her new role marks a transition from leading Sierra Leone’s principal revenue collection institution to serving in the country’s diplomatic and international affairs portfolio.
During her tenure as Commissioner General, Mrs Bangura oversaw a series of reforms aimed at strengthening tax administration, improving taxpayer engagement and advancing digital transformation within the NRA.
One of the major developments under her leadership was the transition from manual tax administration processes to the Integrated Tax Administration System (ITAS), supporting more efficient management of taxpayer information and revenue collection.
She also championed the Electronic Cash Register (ECR) initiative, introduced as part of efforts to strengthen tax compliance and improve monitoring of business transactions.
Beyond her domestic responsibilities, Mrs Bangura served as an expert on the United Nations Committee of Experts on International Cooperation in Tax Matters, giving her an international platform to contribute to discussions on global tax administration and cooperation.
Mrs Bangura’s appointment as Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs follows an extensive career in public and financial administration.
Before becoming Commissioner General in December 2023, she served as Deputy Commissioner General at the NRA and later as Deputy Minister of Finance.
A Certified Public Accountant, Mrs Bangura has more than 25 years of experience in public administration and financial policy.
The NRA has expressed appreciation for her contributions to the institution and confidence in her ability to continue serving Sierra Leone in her new diplomatic role.
Her move to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation comes as the government reshapes its cabinet and places experienced public officials in new areas of national service.
