Sierra Leone is preparing to transform the findings of its APRM Second-Generation Country Review into a practical and nationally owned National Program of Action (NPoA) through a five-day development and harmonization workshop scheduled for 7-11 September 2026 in Freetown.
The process offers a significant opportunity to strengthen governance, improve development planning and translate national priorities into measurable action. End Summary.
Planning Today for a Stronger Sierra Leone Tomorrow
The NPoA will provide a clear framework for converting APRM recommendations into concrete actions, responsible institutions, measurable indicators, timelines, cost estimates and financing arrangements. It will also strengthen alignment between governance reforms and Sierra Leone’s Medium-Term National Development Plan (MTNDP 2024-2030).
The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development (MoPED), under the leadership of Hon. Minister Kenyeh Barlay, has a strategically important role in connecting the NPoA with national planning, budgeting, costing and implementation. This provides an opportunity for the Ministry to further demonstrate its leadership in ensuring that development priorities are translated into tangible results for citizens.
The process brought together Government institutions, Parliament, Judiciary, local councils, civil society, private sector, academia, media, women, youth, traditional and religious leader’s development partners and other stakeholders.
Our Future, Our Responsibility
The NPoA development process represents a hopeful opportunity for Sierra Leone to turn reflection into action and recommendations into results. Its greatest strength will be the collective commitment of Sierra Leoneans to make it work.
Every citizen has a role to play. The issues addressed through the APRM affect our daily lives, from governance and accountability to employment, education, healthcare, justice and inclusive economic opportunities.
With strong leadership from Hon. Kenyeh Barlay and MoPED, effective coordination by the APRM National Secretariat, meaningful stakeholder participation and active citizen engagement, Sierra Leone can use the NPoA to build a stronger, more inclusive and development-focused nation.
The APRM Review tells us where we are; the NPoA gives us an opportunity to chart, together, where we want Sierra Leone to go.
