A purported notice announcing the release of the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results on September 25, 2026, is making waves on social media, prompting renowned journalist Sahid Bangura of Sierraloaded Media to raise questions over its authenticity.
The document, which is being circulated as an official communication from the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE), claims that the 2026 WASSCE results will be released on September 25. Several media platforms have also reported the purported announcement as breaking news.
Among them, People’s Radio 99.3 FM in Kono reportedly published the information as “BREAKING NEWS – WASSCE Results To Be Released On September 25th 2026,” while Focus Online TV circulated a similar update stating: “Attention please! Update on WASSCE Results to be Released on 25th of this Month.”
However, closer scrutiny of the document raises questions about whether it is an authentic 2026 MBSSE announcement. The notice displayed online is visibly dated September 12, 2025, and carries the reference “MoBSE/PR/2025/001.” It therefore does not, on its face, constitute a 2026 document announcing the 2026 WASSCE results.
The document also contains the name and signature of then Education Minister Conrad Sackey and states that the WASSCE results would be released on September 25. Historical records show that the 2025 WASSCE results were ultimately released in October 2025, rather than on September 25.
The discrepancy has heightened concerns over the current circulation of the document as a notice for the 2026 WASSCE results. While the document carries official-looking government branding and a ministerial signature, those features alone cannot establish that it was issued for the 2026 examination results.
Sahid Bangura’s concerns therefore centre on the need for proper verification before the information is presented to students, parents, schools and the wider public as an official government announcement.
The issue is particularly significant given the speed at which examination-related information spreads across social media and the potential for an unverified release date to create confusion and unnecessary anxiety among thousands of candidates awaiting their results.
At the time of this report, the purported notice announcing September 25, 2026 as the official release date should therefore be treated with caution until it is independently confirmed by the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education or the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
