The Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) has announced that a major technical fault has been identified along the 225kV transmission line between Yiben and the Bumbuna Substation, resulting in limited power transmission to the Freetown distribution network.
In a press release issued on 16th September 2026, the Authority stated that the fault has affected power transmission from the Côte d’Ivoire-Liberia-Sierra Leone-Guinea (CLSG) interconnection, causing a significant reduction in available power capacity, especially during peak load hours in the Western Area.
To maintain system stability, EDSA said it has found it necessary to undertake load shedding in certain parts of Freetown.
The Authority assured the public that its technical team is working closely with TRANSCO CLSG experts to expeditiously resolve the issue and restore normal power supply as soon as possible.
EDSA sincerely apologised to all customers experiencing intermittent power supply and assured the public that the situation will be rectified shortly.
The Authority stated it remains committed to providing reliable and efficient electricity services and will continue to keep the public informed of any significant developments.
