Bo School Holds Mandatory Orientation Amid Academic Concerns
Government Secondary School Bo on Tuesday held a mandatory orientation session for newly admitted and returning students as the school begins efforts to strengthen discipline and academic performance.
The session, held at the OBBA Stage, was led by Principal Rev. Hassan Kainesie and focused on the school’s traditions, values, behavioural expectations and academic standards.
Addressing the students, Rev. Kainesie emphasised discipline, respect, hard work and academic excellence, urging them to conduct themselves responsibly and remain committed to their studies.
The orientation comes amid concerns over the school’s performance in the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). Out of 117 candidates, only six obtained five credits or above, while 46 failed to obtain any credits and 44 results were withheld by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
Rev. Kainesie, who assumed leadership of the school in August 2025, has pledged to improve teaching standards, strengthen discipline and enhance parental involvement as part of efforts to improve the institution’s academic performance.
The orientation is also in line with the school’s longstanding motto, “Manners Maketh Man,” which emphasises discipline, character and responsible conduct.
Founded in 1906, Government Secondary School Bo is a fully boarding boys’ school with a long history in Sierra Leone’s education sector. The Old Bo Boys’ Association (OBBA), established in 1929, has also contributed to the development of the institution, including through infrastructure projects.
The school experienced operational disruptions earlier in the 2025/2026 academic year due to extensive rehabilitation work on the campus, which delayed its reopening.
