A mother has angrily raised serious allegations against a teacher at St. Joseph’s Secondary School, claiming he collected money from her and other parents to ensure their daughters’ names appeared on the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) list.
The mother reported that the issue was first identified in February when Mr. Kamara Pope Francis asked over twenty parents to pay Nle250 each. This payment was allegedly for resolving the matter with the West African Examination Council (WAEC). The teacher allegedly provided Examination Identification Slips to those who complied, which were intended to verify students’ eligibility for the exams.
After paying the fee, the mother stated that her daughter was informed her name had been added to the list of verified students, asserting that the teacher also confirmed the information to her, leading them to believe the matter was settled.
However, during the examination period, the situation changed. The mother recounted that when her daughter attended her first practical exam, she found her name missing from the verified list. Despite that, she was allowed to take the exam, assuming it was a mistake.
The following day, during her Biology exam, the daughter was reportedly asked to leave the hall by invigilators, who confirmed her name was not on the list of verified candidates.
The mother expressed her frustration, stating that the teacher’s actions have jeopardized her daughter’s academic future, stressing on the serious implications such situations can have on students, particularly young girls. The mother has contended to have a confrontation with the teacher in the school.
