Four Sierra Leonean students have appealed for government support after being selected to represent the country at the 4th Pan African Quiz Competition organised by the PLO Lumumba Foundation.
The students are among 108 participants drawn from all 54 African countries for the continental competition, which is scheduled to take place virtually from September to October via Zoom.
Leading the Sierra Leone team is Tamba Sam Sumana of Njala University. He is joined by Artiru A. Bah, also of Njala University, Vandi Lahai of Fourah Bay College (FBC), and Success S.D. Nyandemoh, a nursing student at Masanga Teaching Hospital.
According to the team, the competition will test participants’ knowledge of Pan-African heritage, history, culture, as well as science and technology across the African continent.
The students are seeking support from the Ministry of Technical and Higher Education to enable them to effectively participate in the virtual contest. They specifically appealed for digital tools and other logistical assistance required for the online competition.
In a message addressed to Sierraloaded, the team also requested media publicity to raise awareness about Sierra Leone’s participation and to encourage institutional support for the country’s representatives.
“We will be representing the green, white, and blue flag,” the team stated, expressing pride in being selected to compete on behalf of Sierra Leone at the continental event.
The students further encouraged members of the public to visit the PLO Lumumba Foundation’s official social media platforms for more information about the competition.
Their participation presents an opportunity for Sierra Leone to showcase its academic talent and knowledge on a continental stage while competing alongside representatives from across Africa.
