Renowned Sierra Leonean music sensation, Benjamin Menelik George, popularly known as Drizilik, has joined the chorus of voices condemning the scourge of the deadly drug “Kush” that is wreaking havoc among the country’s youth.
In a passionate Facebook post, Drizilik emphasized the urgent need for community involvement in combating the Kush epidemic. He stated, “Let’s be honest, it’s not easy to call out your neighborhood drug dealer, but it’s the only way to solve this problem. The responsibility of the community is to identify the distributors that will lead us to the top of the chain.”
Continuing his advocacy, Drizilik stated, “We already know those who are consuming it, and they are the victims.” He added that it is the importers of the Kush that people need to identify. He emphasized that all videos showing victims of Kush are merely distractions, and victim shaming will not end the Kush epidemic
“We already know the wan dem wey de take the kush, na dem na di victim dem. Na di wan dem wey de bring am na the country we want for know. All dem video wey de show young bobor dem line up na distraction. Victim shaming nor go end kush”
The issue of Kush has gained significant momentum following a recent mass burial of 32 unidentified young people, including 25 males and 7 females, who were laid to rest undignified in a mass grave. This tragic event has sparked outrage and renewed calls on social media for government action against what many describe as a pandemic.
Drizilik’s vocal stance on the matter underscores the growing concern within the community and highlights the crucial role of public awareness and grassroots efforts in addressing the Kush crisis.
