One of few legends who made Sierra Leone entertainment industry worth its hype is Linda Samai, popularly known as Star Zee.
Star Zee is a multi-award winning Sierra Leonean Hip-Hop and Dancehall queen.
Born to Mr Patrick Samai (a former military dance band vocalist) and Mrs Sombo Samai (medical nurse), Star Zee was born and raised in Freetown. The “QueenKong” alias Star Zee has in everyway demonstrated why she is Sierra Leone’s biggest Dancehall crooner; a lyrically lethal female singjay who can rival her male counterparts boot-to-boot on the riddim.
While she started pursuing her dream from the early age of fourteen (14) by joining the music industry when she joined Stress Inc Records, Star Zee began her career as a member of Ladies Day Out, a female-only band (L.D.O) and went solo in 2003, never looking back. “Focus On Africa” was published by the group (L.D.O) in December 1998. Star Zee’s contributions to the record earned her widespread acclaim in Sierra Leone’s music business.
Star Zee is widely regarded as the queen of hip-hop in the industry since she was raised in a musically inclined household, had to choose the same profession as her deceased father, and is genetically predisposed to music. She continues to distinguish out from the competition despite challenges from established artists and other female rappers.
Star Zee has been able to enter a field dominated by males since the beginning of her solo career and maintain her position. She has performed alongside various musicians from her homeland and abroad, including a collaboration with Nigerian icon Patoranking, in the United Kingdom and Australia. She won an award for “Best Work of the Year” for her collaboration with renowned dancehall heavyweight Stonebwoy.
Star Zee is one of Sierra Leone’s most prominent and important female artists. She aspires to maintain her love and enthusiasm for the entertainment business while also conveying a positive picture of Sierra Leone.
Many of her works have enjoyed country wide airplay, international recognition amongst others. “Na by Foss” (2021), Life (2021), Around Ya (2020), Catch Fire (2019), Super Woman (2019), and many others are among her most recent works.
