Ishmeal Alfred Charles the brain behind the Sick Pikin Project has expressed a deep desire to serve as an ambassador, not as a politician in the traditional sense, but as a representative of the country on the global stage.
Charles made this statement in an exclusive interview with Awoko Newspaper while speaking on his vision for Sierra Leone. He emphasized his commitment to humanitarian efforts, particularly in healthcare advocacy.
“If I were an ambassador to a country like India, I would work towards developing a modular hospital system in Sierra Leone. This would significantly reduce the need for families to travel abroad for medical care,” he stated. His vision is centered on ensuring that every Sierra Leonean has access to affordable, quality healthcare.
He highlighted the African philosophy of Ubuntu, which translates to “I am because you are,” as a guiding principle for national development. “We need to build a society where people help each other simply because it is the right thing to do,” he emphasized.
As part of his broader vision, he is calling on the government to mandate that mining companies allocate a percentage of their royalties to emergency healthcare for children. According to him, this would create a sustainable system to address urgent medical needs and strengthen Sierra Leone’s overall healthcare sector.
Reflecting on the kind of legacy he hopes to leave behind, he stressed that meaningful change does not always require financial resources. “Simple acts of kindness like fetching water for an elderly person can make significant difference,” he said, urging Sierra Leoneans to embrace a culture of selflessness and collective progress.
His aspirations underscore a growing call for innovative leadership and social responsibility in Sierra Leone, particularly in areas that impact the most vulnerable.
Kudos Bro and may your good aspirations comes to reality in a not too distance future IJN 🙏🏼
