In response to the increasing need for healthcare services, Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Health has launched a new online recruitment portal aimed at filling 3,000 health worker positions.

The digital platform is designed to streamline the hiring process, making it quicker, more transparent, and more efficient—marking a major step forward in the country’s healthcare development efforts.

This initiative supports the objectives of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3: Good Health and Well-Being. It specifically helps in expanding access to quality healthcare, strengthening health systems, and moving closer to universal health coverage.

By enhancing recruitment methods and growing the healthcare workforce, Sierra Leone aims to promote healthier lives and overall well-being for its citizens—core goals of SDG 3.

The official launch ceremony was held at the Ministry’s conference hall in Youyi Building, Freetown, on Monday, September 8th, 2025.
Deputy Minister of Health II, Dr. Jelikatu Mustapha, described the event as a historic milestone for the ministry and the health sector.

She reflected on previous recruitment efforts between 2023 and 2024, which involved hiring 1,500 health workers through traditional paper-based applications.

She acknowledged that the old process was often cumbersome, requiring applicants from provincial areas to travel to Freetown, which caused logistical challenges and congestion at the ministry.

Highlighting the benefits of the new platform, she explained that applicants can now apply from their homes, removing many of these hurdles. She also praised Minister of Health, Dr. Austin Demby, for leading this innovative move, and President Bio for his strong support of human capital development and health sector strengthening.

Dr. Mustapha emphasized that the new system will promote fairer placement of healthcare workers across all districts, with designated quotas for each region. She also noted that volunteer health workers will be given priority during recruitment.

Senior Permanent Secretary, Andrew Sorie, called the launch a “special day” for the ministry. He assured the public that the new process will be more transparent and less susceptible to corruption or bribery, issues that affected previous recruitment efforts. He confirmed that the official portal can be accessed at www.recruitment.mohs.gov.sl.

IT Director Capri Lonko Koroma demonstrated how applicants can create accounts, upload necessary documents, and receive instant notifications about their application status.

She reassured users that the platform is secure; once applications are submitted, even the administrative team cannot alter or tamper with the data, ensuring integrity and confidentiality.

This shift to digital recruitment reflects the Ministry’s dedication to building a more efficient, fair, and transparent health workforce—key to improving healthcare delivery throughout Sierra Leone.
