Every day, around 700 babies are born in Sierra Leone, highlighting an urgent need for strategic planning to support the nation’s youngest citizens. Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh emphasizes that preparing for this demographic shift is crucial for the country’s future.

During the recent budget hearing at Bintumani International Conference Centre, VP Jalloh stressed the importance of proactive planning in education, healthcare, and social services to meet the needs of these new generations.

He also highlighted progress in financial inclusion, which has increased from 20% in 2017 to 39%, but noted that more work is needed.

With overseas aid declining and the global economy facing challenges, Jalloh called for a significant boost in domestic revenue to fund vital development projects. “The link between revenue and our ability to provide quality services is clear,” he said. “For every 700 children born daily, we’re committed to providing approximately 8 to 10 free classrooms—our flagship education initiative.”

He urged immediate action, emphasizing that the future of Sierra Leone depends on how well the nation plans and mobilizes resources today. “The needs are immense, and we must act now to secure a better future for our children.”

This call to action underscores the importance of strategic planning and revenue generation to turn Sierra Leone’s demographic growth into tangible improvements for its youngest generation. The decisions made today will shape the country’s future.
