Parliamentary Member of the All People’s Congress (APC), Abdul Karim Kamara, has delivered a stern message to Edmond Alpha, emphasizing that no individual is above the citizens of Sierra Leone.
Kamara’s remarks come amid heightened political tension surrounding parliamentary approvals and the conduct of national elections.
Addressing Commissioner Alpha directly through the broadcast, Honorable Kamara emphasized that public officials are accountable to the electorate. He stated that the citizens of Sierra Leone would ultimately remind Alpha that he is not “bigger than the citizens of this country.”
“It is Sierra Leone that’s bigger than you,” Kamara declared. “The people of this country will communicate to him and tell him that this is not correct.”
The Member of Parliament also clarified the APC’s position regarding the potential approval of the commissioner and the outlook for future electoral outcomes. While Kamara noted that the party is prepared to respect the democratic process, he underscored that such respect is conditional on the transparency of the system.
On Acceptance: Kamara noted that if elections are conducted in a free, fair, and credible manner, the APC would accept the outcome, regardless of which party wins.
On Resistance: However, he warned that if future processes mirror the controversies of the 2023 elections, the party and the public would not remain silent.
”The people of this country will resist it with every opportunity we have provided for by law,” Kamara stated, reinforcing that the APC’s stance is rooted in legal recourse and civil rights.
Anticipating potential backlash regarding his firm rhetoric, Kamara was quick to frame his statements as an act of national duty rather than a threat. He dismissed any claims of political entitlement, asserting that his words were born out of “true patriotism.”
“Sierra Leone belongs to all and not to a select few,” he concluded, calling for an inclusive democratic process that honors the voice of every citizen.
