The State Prosecutor in the ongoing Abdul Kpaka’s murder trial, Yusuf Isaac Sesay brought Police Detective Sergeant Issa Edison from Adonkia Police Station in Goderich as his eighth witness.

From his testimony, the police officer told presiding judge, Justice Momoh-Jah Stevens that he met with the accused at Adonkia Police Station when he was brought in as a suspect in the death of Sia Kamara. Detective Edison informed the court that he started taking statement from Kpaka the following day after he refused to speak without his lawyers. But with minutes of recording the statement with his colleague officer, Detective Sergeant Bellia, the Local Unit Commander ordered to cease and process the investigation for transfer to Lumley Police Station in Freetown.

The witness told the court during cross-examination from the defence attorney Lawyer Kamanda and team, that his investigation in the matter was limited to the accused and not the complainant but he told the court that the accused told the police that the late woman got cut on her lips after he slipped and fell on the floor -a statement that negated that of the complainant’s, Sylvester Patrick Kamara who believe that his sister was physically abused and killed by Kpaka.

With over a month since Sia Kamara was confirmed dead by a coroner in Freetown, the case is at its apex as the prosecution is gradually leading the last of his witnesses. Meanwhile, the court is expected to sit on the matter again on Friday November 15, 2024.
