A gruesome road accident along the Masiaka – Mile 91 highway on Tuesday 30 July 2024 claimed the lives of four people at around 01:50 hours in Royanka village, Yoni Mamaila Chiefdom, Tonkolili District.

According to eyewitnesses, the driver, Senesie Bah of Mackdona village in Freetown, who was in control of a Mercedes Benz truck with registration number AWR- 589 loaded with quantity of cement was heading to Bo city from Freetown, when he lost control of the said truck and crashed into the room of one Idrissa Kanu while sleeping with his wife and two children in the aforementioned village.

As a result of the accident, Idrissa Kanu, and his son, Alhassan Kanu, age six were fatally injured. Fatmata Bangura, the wife and her daughter – Sadiatu Kamara, age 16 sustained serious bodily injuries.

Ibrahim Senesie and Senesie Bah, both apprentices to the truck were also reportedly injured.

Upon receipt of the report, the Mile 91 Divisional Traffic Officer, DSP Mustapha Turay said a team of Police officers visited the scene.

Those injured, DSP Turay said were conveyed at the Canadian Hospital in Mile 91 town for treatment.

A Police medical form, the DTO said was also issued to the victims for medical treatment. Fatmata Bangura, the wife and her daughter, Sadiatu Kamara later reportedly passed on while responding to treatment.

The corpses have been deposited at the Accident Emergency Hospital Mile 91 town awaiting to be conveyed at the Magburaka Government hospital mortuary for post- mortem examination.

The traffic department of Mile 91 Police Division is investigating the matter.
