The Freetown City Mayor, Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr, has today, 27th June, 2025 officially launched Operation Dorti Mus Go! at Calaba Town market to improve sanitation and flood management in Freetown.
The initiative aims to raise awareness of the newly implemented Freetown Sanitation Byelaws, introduce approved waste service providers to the community, and conduct annual flood mitigation activities.
Following the launch event, Mayor Aki-Sawyerr asserted the significance of the campaign, stating, “We are raising awareness of the new Freetown Sanitation Byelaws, introducing the approved waste service providers to Freetonians, and undertaking our annual flood mitigation activities.”
The Mayor emphasized the importance of community participation in these efforts, urging residents to take an active role in maintaining a clean and safe environment.
The next engagement for Operation Dorti Mus Go! is scheduled for Sunday, June 29, 2025, and will focus on key areas including Abacha Street, Wallace Johnson Street, Lightfoot Boston Street, and Wellington Street. The targeted approach aims to address specific sanitation challenges in these neighborhoods.
Mayor Aki-Sawyerr expressed her gratitude to various organizations that have supported the initiative. “Thanks to Ecobank, Africell, the Chinese Embassy, and RMFA for their generous contributions towards these activities,” she stated.
She further acknowledged LXG for their creation of the Dorti Mus Go song, which is designed to inspire community involvement and raise awareness about sanitation issues.
The Mayor concluded her remarks by inviting further participation from local organizations and residents, reinforcing the message that maintaining a clean city is a shared responsibility. “This is our collective responsibility,” she said, encouraging all Freetonians to engage in the campaign.
