Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to Liberia, Edie Sidikie Massalay, has taken a decisive step towards uplifting Pewahun Village and its neighboring areas by spearheading a self-funded initiative.
In December 2023, Ambassador Mansalay convened a significant meeting in his hometown, drawing together essential stakeholders, including teachers, religious leaders, women representatives, and the press, at the Pewahun Court Barry.
The ambassador, hailing from the community, expressed his deep commitment to enhancing the living conditions of his people.
His announcement of a self-financed project aimed at constructing a much-needed standard school and a health center in Pewahun Village echoed his dedication to addressing critical gaps in essential services.
During his address, Ambassador Massalay emphasized the urgent requirement for these facilities, underscoring his responsibility as a devoted native. He articulated that this initiative would complement President Julius Maada Bio’s ongoing efforts to bolster education standards and enhance the well-being of all citizens.
Town Chief Momoh Sama of Pewahun Village shed light on the arduous challenges faced by community members, particularly women who endure long journeys to access healthcare. Sama stressed that non-participation in the project would result in consequences, highlighting the collective importance of this endeavor.
Edurisa Kpaka, a teacher at the National Islamic Mission Primary School in Pewahun Village, illuminated the pressing issue of the school’s dilapidated condition, necessitating the use of the Court Barry as a makeshift classroom.
The ambitious project aims to serve over 500 students enrolled in the school and vastly improve healthcare accessibility for the entire community. Ambassador Massalay’s proactive stance signifies a pivotal stride towards a brighter future for Pewahun Village and its inhabitants.
