The Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) for the Freetown-East Region, Brima Kanneh, on Saturday led a community football event at the Brima Attouga Mini Stadium as part of a public awareness campaign against drug abuse, particularly the use of Kush.

The football match, held under the theme “Kick Kush Out,” brought together police officers, community members, and youth groups in a display of solidarity and commitment to tackling the rising drug problem in society.

Before the match kicked off, AIG Kanneh delivered an opening address in which he emphasized the need for collective responsibility in combating the use of Kush. He commended the organisers for using sports as a tool for social change and performed the ceremonial kickoff to signal the start of the match.

The friendly encounter featured teams from the Harbour Police Division and the Harbour Police Barracks. The Barracks Team opened the scoring early in the first half, prompting loud celebrations from their supporters. However, the Harbour Division Team responded strongly, earning and converting a penalty to level the score at 1–1 before halftime.

Both sides continued to play with high energy and determination in the second half, but it was the Harbour Barracks Team that eventually found the decisive goal through a late counterattack, sealing a 2–1 victory.

Despite the competitive nature of the match, organisers stressed that the real victory lay in spreading awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and encouraging discipline, teamwork, and community involvement in the fight against Kush.

The event concluded with renewed calls for collaboration between law enforcement, community leaders, and young people to “Kick Kush Out” and build a safer, drug-free society.
