A Freetown-based businessman, Aruna Fornah Opray, has been granted bail in the sum of 300,000 Leones by Magistrate Santigie Bangura of the Pademba Road Court No.2, following allegations of fraudulent conversion and obtaining money by false pretenses.
Opray faces two charges under the Larceny Act of 1916.
According to court records, the charges stem from an incident in June 2024 at #15 Freetown Road, Goderich, where Opray allegedly converted to his personal use a Sprinter vehicle valued at 250,000 Leones.
The vehicle had been entrusted to him by the complainant for transport operations. In addition, Opray is accused of falsely obtaining $1,000 from the complainant, claiming he would use the funds to service her vehicle, though he allegedly had no intention of doing so.
When the charges were read in court, no plea was taken from the accused. His defense counsel, Thomas Moore Conteh, renewed his previous application for bail, which was subsequently granted.
Magistrate Bangura set the bail at 300,000 Leones, with two sureties who must reside in Freetown and provide valid identification verifying their addresses. The bail must be approved by the Deputy Assistant Registrar.
The matter has been adjourned to November 13, 2024, for further proceedings.
