The CEO of Canaanland Microfinance Company, Thomas Musa Turay, has been committed to the High Court for allegedly obtaining over eighty-one million old Leones from members of the public under false pretenses.
Turay appeared before Magistrate Santigie Bangura of Court No. 2, Pademba Road, on Thursday, August 15, 2024, for a preliminary investigation. The prosecution, led by ASP Musa Baba, presented two witnesses and tendered supporting evidence.
After careful consideration of the evidence, Magistrate Bangura ruled that there was sufficient grounds to commit the accused to the High Court for trial. However, bail was granted to Turay pending his trial.
The alleged offenses took place between January 23 and February 27, 2024, in Freetown. Turay is charged with conspiracy and obtaining money by false pretenses. The prosecution alleges that he falsely claimed his company had tricycles for sale to defraud victims of their money.
