Minister of Information and Civic Education, Chernor Bah, has been named Minister of the Year 2025 at the Marampa Legendary Awards. The honor recognises his transformative leadership and the national impact of his work within his ministry and the Julius Maada Bio administration.

The ceremony took place on Friday evening, 9th January 2026, in Lunsar, Port Loko District. The event drew a prestigious crowd, including political leaders, medical professionals, academics, and philanthropists to the northwest district.

Receiving the award, Minister Bah expressed gratitude for the recognition, noting its significance as a community-led initiative outside the capital, Freetown.

He stated, “This recognition shows that the impact of our work is being felt across the country,” Further adding that “What makes this award especially meaningful is that it comes from young people who are leading change in their communities and who have acknowledged the contribution we have made to their efforts.”

Additionally, Minister Bah encouraged young people to embrace unity and to take a firm stand against drug abuse.

“As a government, we are proud of the work young people are doing to promote peace. Despite our differences, Sierra Leone must always come first. Reject violence, and stay away from drugs.” He said.

In closing, he further informed on the plans for the country’s first-ever National Remembrance Day, declared by President Julius Maada Bio.

“January 18 will be observed as National Remembrance Day,’” he said. “The commemoration will run from January 14 to January 21, and will include a nationwide two-minute moment of silence, the use of white ribbons as a symbol of remembrance, and the establishment of Remembrance Walls in communities.”
