Chief Minister David Moinina Sengeh has signed the book of condolence for the late Reverend Father Augustine Dauda Amadu, the slain Parish Priest of Immaculate Conception Parish in Burma, Kenema.
Representing President Julius Maada Bio, the Chief Minister led a government delegation to the Pastoral Council office in Kenema, where he paid tribute to the late priest and expressed solidarity with the Catholic community.
The delegation included the Minister of Communication, Technology and Innovation, the Deputy Minister of Lands, Housing and Country Planning, the Deputy Minister of Information and Civic Education, the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) Kenema District Chairman, and elder J.S. Kelfala.
On behalf of the President, Dr. Sengeh presented food items and financial support to the bereaved family and the church for funeral arrangements. He further assured stakeholders that the government remains committed to pursuing justice for the late priest, stressing that security forces will continue to protect citizens from such violent crimes.
Father Amadu was brutally killed at his residence in Kenema by suspected armed robbers during a night attack. Reports indicate that the priest engaged in a confrontation with the assailants before succumbing to fatal injuries. His killing shocked the nation and drew widespread condemnation.
In a related development, the Sierra Leone Police have confirmed the arrest of six suspects in connection with recent armed robberies in Bo and Kenema. The incidents, which occurred about two weeks ago, claimed the life of Father Amadu and left Mr. John Lamina, the South Regional Manager of NASSIT, seriously injured in Bo.
The arrested suspects include Gbassay Swarray, alias Success, previously linked to a murder case in Moyamba; Joseph Kamagy Kamara, alias Shine; Martin Sallu, an ex-convict; Joseph Bangalie, alias Boika, also an ex-convict for felonious offences; Foday Sallu; and Foday Hassan Sesay, who was reportedly found in possession of one of Mr. Lamina’s stolen items.
According to police reports, the suspects were apprehended with firearms and housebreaking implements during intensified operations. Their arrests mark significant progress in the ongoing investigation into the wave of violent robberies that have recently plagued parts of the Eastern and Southern regions.
Authorities have assured the public that investigations are continuing to ensure all those responsible are brought to justice.
