Paramount Chiefs from Tonkolili District nominated Hon. PC Alhaji Musa Bamba Foray Kulio Jalloh as the next Paramount Chief Member of Parliament (PCMP) to represent the district in the national Parliament.
The nomination, held during a vibrant ceremony at the District Office of the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone in Magburaka on Thursday, February 20, 2025, follows the passing of Hon. PC Alhaji Masakama Kanamanka III on November 8, 2024, which left Tonkolili District without a PCMP.
PC Musa Bamba Foray Jalloh, the current Paramount Chief of the resource-rich Sambaia Bendugu Chiefdom, was nominated as the next PCMP to represent the district.
In accordance with a “Memorandum of Understanding” signed by all Paramount and Regent Chiefs in 2018, the position of PCMP is rotated among the chiefs. The MOU also stipulates that an internal election-like process be held, overseen by the District Officer, to select the nominee. This approach aims to minimize conflicts among chiefs and maintain unity within their communities.
On December 3, 2024, PC Musa Bamba Foray Jalloh was unanimously endorsed by his fellow Paramount Chiefs in the presence of the District Officer.
Following the announcement of the date for the PCMP bye-election in Tonkolili, Jalloh went through the nomination process after receiving the endorsement from his colleagues.
In his statement after the nomination, PC Jalloh expressed gratitude to his colleagues for their confidence and trust in him. He pledged to serve with diligence, prioritizing the interests of his fellow chiefs and the entire district.
PC Dr. Masakma Madibie II of Kafe Chiefdom, also the Chairman of the Council of Paramount Chiefs in Tonkolili, called for unity and patience among the chiefs, emphasizing that leadership is a divine responsibility.
PC Jalloh was accompanied by a large crowd of his supporters from Sambaia Chiefdom, further underscoring the strong backing he has within his community.
