Commonwealth Business Women Africa – SL, in partnership with Pioneering Initiatives for Rehabilitation of Substance Use Dynamics – SL, officially launched its operations on Friday, December 13, 2024, in Freetown, Sierra Leone’s capital.
The launch event, held at the Radisson Blu Hotel, brought together individuals from diverse sectors of society.
During the ceremony, certificates and awards were presented to individuals and organizations that have significantly contributed to the organization’s growth and to the development of communities across Sierra Leone.
Commonwealth Business Women Africa – SL is a human rights organization dedicated to advocating for the rights and well-being of women.
It also focuses on empowering women and girls to become self-reliant, thereby contributing to the socio-economic advancement of society.
In her keynote address, Apostle Ann Marie King, the Country Director of Commonwealth Business Women Africa, welcomed attendees and provided an overview of the organization’s mission and objectives. She noted that the launch marked the official start of operations, with their office located on Wilkinson Road in Freetown.
Apostle King highlighted the organization’s current focus on raising awareness about the dangers of Kush, a drug that has severely impacted the lives of many young people in Sierra Leone.
She explained that the rise in substance abuse has had devastating effects, particularly on women, many of whom have been left as single mothers burdened with the responsibility of caring for their children.
To address this crisis, Commonwealth Business Women Africa – SL has partnered with Pioneering Initiatives for Rehabilitation of Substance Use Dynamics – SL, an organization renowned for its efforts in combating drug and substance abuse.
Speaking at the event, Isata B. M. Kallon, President of Pioneering Initiatives for Rehabilitation of Substance Use Dynamics – SL, described the partnership as a transformative collaboration, calling it “an everlasting marriage.”
Dr. Emmanuel Stafford, Chief Executive Officer of Diaspora Focus, also delivered a statement, emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing societal challenges.
The ceremony concluded with the presentation of certificates to individuals and organizations in recognition of their contributions to the organization and the development of communities across Sierra Leone.
