Renovation work on the Connaught Hospital mortuary is in its final stages, with progress reported at about 90 percent.

The project is set to transform the country’s main referral hospital mortuary into a modern facility equipped with ultramodern services that will enhance both healthcare delivery and public use.

The upgraded complex will include a fully equipped washing room, a modern postmortem room, and a dedicated teaching space for medical students, strengthening the role of Connaught Hospital in medical training and research.

For grieving families, the facility will also feature a funeral parlor and a spacious hall for services, offering a more dignified environment during times of loss.

In addition to these improvements, the renovation includes administrative offices and newly installed freezers to ensure proper preservation of bodies, addressing long-standing challenges in the country’s mortuary services.

Once completed, the new Connaught mortuary is expected to set a higher standard for medical and funeral care in Sierra Leone, marking an important milestone in the government’s effort to modernize healthcare infrastructure.
