Residents and traders at Four-Mile Park in Waterloo have raised alarm over a dead body that has been left unattended in the area since Saturday morning. The coffin, which has begun to emit a strong, offensive odour, continues to attract attention and concern from passersby.
According to an eyewitness and local trader Ibraheeman Jalloh, the coffin was offloaded by one of the council’s tricycles after the vehicle reportedly developed mechanical problems. “They dropped it here yesterday morning and have not come back for it since,” Jalloh said.
The situation took a disturbing turn on Saturday night when a group of young men reportedly attempted to remove the body from the coffin and make away with the empty box, but they were stopped before they could do so.
Meanwhile, health experts are warning that the decomposing body poses a serious public health risk to nearby traders and residents, as the stench and potential bacteria from the corpse could contaminate the surrounding environment if not properly handled and removed immediately.
Locals in the community are urging the local council to pick the corpse to avoid health risks.
