Deputy Statistician General of Stats SL, Lansana Kpewolo Kanneh, embarked on a monitoring visit to Kamakwie, Karene District. The visit aimed to oversee the ongoing training of enumerators and supervisors participating in the groundbreaking CHESS survey.

Departing from Freetown on Saturday, March 9, 2024, Mr. Kanneh engaged with field staff to evaluate the progress of their training. The CHESS survey represents a new era in population surveillance, focusing on delivering high-quality, timely data for disease-specific morbidity and mortality.

Expressing satisfaction at the training’s progress, Mr. Kanneh emphasized Stats SL’s commitment to producing credible and reliable data for informed national decision-making. During his interactions with trainees, he urged meticulous attention to detail, emphasizing the vital role they play in achieving the survey’s objectives.

Mr. Kanneh also addressed misinformation regarding the recruitment of field staff, meeting with Karene District Council Chairman, Abdul Kandeh, media representatives, and key stakeholders. He clarified that Stats SL adhered to a stringent selection process, dispelling the notion of importing staff from outside the district. The stakeholders, convinced by the explanation, pledged full support for the survey.

Simultaneously, a similar training is underway in Pujehun District, another CHESS site. Stats SL Council Chairman, Moses Williams, and Council Rep for the North-West Region, Alhaji Yillah, visited the district, assessing training progress and motivating trainees to contribute to the success of the CHESS survey. The Deputy Statistician General’s visit has not only bolstered confidence in the survey but also enhanced the standing of Stats SL as an institution committed to delivering impactful and accurate data.
