Mohamed Josiah, a 34-year-old driver, has been committed to the High Court on a charge of murder following proceedings at the Pademba Road Magistrate Court No. 1 in Freetown.

The accused appeared before Magistrate Mustapha Braima Jah on one count of murder, in violation of Section 1 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861, as updated by the Abolition of the Death Penalty Act 2021, Act No. 6 of 2022.

The charge relates to an incident that reportedly occurred on April 28, 2025, at the Dundas Street Car Wash in the Western Area, where Josiah is alleged to have murdered Mohamed Lamin Baryoh.

Testifying for the prosecution, Sergeant Amidu Conteh of the Scientific Support Unit said he visited Connaught Mortuary on May 7, 2025, along with an investigator and family members of the deceased. According to his testimony, an autopsy was carried out by pathologist Dr. Owiz Koroma, during which he took photographs of the remains using his Vivo mobile phone. The images were submitted to the court as evidence, marked F1 to F17.

After reviewing the prosecution’s case, the magistrate ruled that there was enough evidence to commit the matter to the High Court for trial. The accused has been remanded at the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown.
