A torrential downpour that lasted over five hours has caused significant damage to the Kailahun market, destroying a bridge and hundreds of trader stalls.
The flooding, which occurred overnight, has displaced numerous market vendors.
The Lawah stream, which runs through the heart of the town and market, overflows during heavy rainfall, a recurring problem, especially during the rainy season. This latest incident has left traders counting their losses as their stalls and livelihoods have been swept away.
Local residents, including Jusu Borbor Alias Oga O2, Lansana Sokoh, and Mustapha Tommy, have expressed deep frustration over the lack of response from the district council and traders’ union to address the ongoing issue.
They are calling on authorities to take immediate action to mitigate the impact of the Lawah stream and prevent future disasters.
