Footballer Mohamed Kamara is scheduled to appear before the High Court after being charged with multiple counts related to illegal drug possession and trafficking, raising concerns over drug-related offenses involving public figures.

Kamara made his final appearance before Magistrate John Manso Fornah at Pademba Road Court No. 2, where he faced five charges under the National Drug Control Act 2008 (Act No. 10 of 2008). The charges include:
Collecting a prohibited drug without lawful authority, contrary to Section 7(b).

Transporting a prohibited drug without lawful authority, contrary to Section 7(c).

Exposing a prohibited drug without lawful authority, contrary to Section 7(c).

Dealing in a prohibited drug without lawful authority, contrary to Section 8(a).

Possessing a prohibited drug without lawful authority, contrary to Section 8(a).

According to the police charge sheet, on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at the Lumley Police checkpoint in Freetown, Kamara was alleged to have unlawfully collected, transported, exposed, dealt in, and possessed a prohibited drug.

When the charges were read and explained to him, Kamara did not enter a plea. Notably, he was unrepresented by legal counsel at the hearing.

The state prosecutor informed the court that he had closed his case and requested a ruling. Magistrate Fornah observed that the prosecution had presented sufficient prima facie evidence linking Kamara to the alleged offenses, thus warranting the matter’s transfer to the High Court for trial.

Consequently, Magistrate Fornah ordered that Mohamed Kamara be committed to stand trial in the High Court. He remains in custody pending his trial.
