Mohamed Fullah Bangura, Headman of the Funkia Community in Goderich, Freetown, has reported that 89 deaths linked to the use of Kush have been recorded in the community over the past two years.
The figures were disclosed during a joint operation conducted by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and security forces at Funkia Market on October 28, 2025. According to Headman Bangura, 62 deaths occurred in 2024, with 27 additional deaths recorded this year.
The revelation underscores growing concerns about the spread of Kush and its devastating impact on young people in the area.
Authorities say the NDLEA and other security agencies are intensifying efforts to curb the use and distribution of illicit drugs in Freetown through community engagement and enforcement operations.
