A tragic incident occurred in the Grassfield community, back of Life Care hospital, when a six-year-old girl, Fatmata Kabia, lost her life after falling into an unprotected well.

The accident took place in the early morning hours of Thursday, 26th June, 2025, as Fatmata was playing near the open well. Witnesses report that she slipped and fell in, prompting immediate action from community members who rushed to rescue her.

Despite their frantic efforts, Fatmata was later retrieved from the water without signs of life. The community is mourning the loss of the young girl, who was known for her playful spirit.

Local authorities are being called upon to address the issue of unprotected wells in residential areas to ensure the safety of children.
