Heavy storm lashes JUI, Eastend of Freetown yesterday the 5th May, 2022, halting movement of humans and vehicles as it destroyed properties worth millions of leones.
TV-News24 was at the scene and reported:
“Market sellers, petty traders, commuters, students – all on their way home, were seen running helter skelter, and looking for cover due to the heavy storm”
“Several commercial and private motor vehicles were also observed standing at a standstill; as visibility was poor, and drivers said they couldn’t drive the cars through the storm at Jui junction” it added.
“An electric pole supplying electricity in the vicinity was left dangling precariously in the air, leaving residents fearful for their lives. An electric pole fell on an electric wire. But Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority – EDSA Sierra Leone – were quick to switch off the electricity to avert a catastrophe” reported TV-News24.
Speaking to the witnesses at the scene, TV-News24 reported that a witness and a petty trader, Aminata Kallon told them this: “We didn’t expect a storm in this period of the month of May. Normally, a storm like this comes within June and July. So, this was unexpected, for today, the storm has disturbed our sales ”
Other witnesses and Kallon, told TV-News24, that they were thankful that EDSA acted promptly and switched off the electricity.
However, according to reports, no body was injured in the heavy storm, except for the properties that were destroyed.
