Honourable Ibrahim Barrie of Bombali District, known for his dual role as a lecturer and lawmaker, has once again demonstrated his unwavering commitment to education by fully sponsoring this year’s University of Makeni Debating Council (UDC) annual spoken poetry and essay writing competition.
His consistent dedication to fostering academic and creative excellence has prompted the UDC to rename the event in his honour as the “Hon. Ibrahim Barrie Annual Spoken Word Poetry & Essay Writing Competition.”

This year’s competition carries thought-provoking themes aimed at inspiring participants to reflect on global challenges:
Essay Writing Theme: “Building Bridges to a Greener Future: Pathways to Sustainable Development and Environmental Protection.”
Spoken Word Poetry Theme: “Echoes of Earth: Voices for a Sustainable Tomorrow.”

UDC President Desmond Alfred Jonathan Farma lauded Hon. Barrie’s contributions, emphasizing his role as a Mandela Washington Fellow and mentor who inspires young Sierra Leoneans to embrace education and leadership.
