The Eastern Regional Police Hospital, Kenema City on Tuesday 17th October 2023, received more essential drugs for efficient dispensation of medications for Police personnel and their dependants in the Region.
Handing over the drugs to the Regional Police Commander, Commissioner Andrew Mustapha Kamara, the Medical Superintendent who doubles as the Deputy Director of Sierra Leone Police Medical Services, ASP Dr. John Mumuneh Konteh stated that before the delivery of the said drugs, he was instructed by the Inspector General of Police, Mr. William Fayia Sellu to go round and visit all Police Hospitals and identify the problems and challenges they are facing.
Dr. Konteh disclosed that among the major problems and challenges that were identified in almost all the Regional Police Hospitals were the lack of sustainable laboratory facilities and proper medications for police personnel.
Consequently, Dr. Konteh informed all and sundry that after submitting his findings to the Inspector General, he (IGP) personally, bought those medicines for distribution among the three Regional Police Hospitals; Bo, Kenema, and Makeni respectively.
The medicines that were distributed included Paracetamol, Diclofenac, Ciprofloxacin IV, Benzathine penicillin, and many more for the treatment of diabetes, malaria, typhoid, and other sicknesses.
Receiving the drugs on behalf of his personnel, the Regional Police Commander-East, Commissioner Andrew Mustapha Kamara expressed his profound thanks and appreciation to the IGP and the entire membership of the Executive Management Board (EMB) for considering the welfare of the personnel, noting that when personnel are healthy they could discharge their duties to the best of their abilities.
Mr. Kamara further opined that the problem his personnel were facing was the issue of going to the Government Hospital for medication with little or no money.
Proper attention or medications were not adequately administered to them and this, he said, was a major challenge for personnel.
The Commissioner of Police concluded by advising those in charge of the Police hospital to take proper care of the medicines.
Similar donations were made in the Southern Region and North East Regions respectively.
Well done to our IGP hope to see the LUNGI police hospital receiving drugs like this one day
