A Sierra Leonean man, Benjamin Franklin, has reported a frightening incident involving his iPhone 15 Pro Max, which he claims overheated and exploded after prolonged use.

According to Franklin, he purchased the device a few months after its release in 2023 and had been using it without any issues prior to the incident.

He explained that on Friday, December 12, 2025, during the evening hours, he made several phone calls before placing the device inside his bag. Shortly afterwards, he noticed intense heat coming from the bag and immediately removed the phone, which displayed a high-temperature warning.

Franklin said the device continued to heat up rapidly, becoming too hot to hold, forcing him to throw it to the ground. Moments later, thick smoke reportedly began to emanate from the phone, followed by an explosion of the battery.
