Civil society activist Musa Jalloh, popularly known as J. Mus, has called on the Deputy Speaker of Parliament and Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee, Honorable Tawa Conteh, to urgently review the 2023 Auditor-General’s Report.
This appeal aligns with Section 119(5) of the 1991 Constitution of Sierra Leone, which mandates Parliament to review audit findings and act on the recommendations.
J. Mus emphasized the importance of parliamentary oversight to ensure transparency and accountability in managing public funds. “The 2023 Auditor-General’s Report highlights significant financial issues that require immediate attention. Parliament has a constitutional duty to act on these recommendations to safeguard the country’s resources,” he said.
The activist also urged swift action to address any irregularities found in the report, stressing the need to restore public confidence in state institutions. His call comes amid growing concerns about the mismanagement of public funds and the increasing demand for greater accountability.
The Public Accounts Committee, chaired by Hon. Tawa Conteh, is expected to lead the review process as required by the Constitution.
The public is anxiously awaiting updates on how Parliament will address the issues raised in the report.
