In a historic move for the Kalanthuba Chiefdom in Tonkolili District’s Constituency 056, Hon. Jawah Sesay, a popular parliamentarian from the All People’s Congress (APC), has launched the construction of the first-ever secondary school in the area. The groundbreaking initiative was marked by the donation of 100 bags of cement, pickaxes, shovels, and other essential materials.

Kalanthuba Chiefdom, de-amalgamated in 2017, comprises 43 villages and five sections but has only one approved primary school. The establishment of a secondary school is seen as a significant step towards improving educational opportunities for the youth in the region.

During his address, Hon. Jawah Sesay highlighted the absence of a paramount chief as one of the major challenges facing the chiefdom, which is currently under the leadership of a regent chief. He assured the community that efforts are being made to ensure the installation of a paramount chief soon.

Hon. Sesay expressed hope that the current or next government would prioritize the needs of Kalanthuba Chiefdom. He encouraged students who will benefit from the new school to remain diligent in their studies, respectful, and obedient to their elders.

Known for his relentless advocacy for Kalanthuba Chiefdom, Hon. Sesay shared that his efforts have not gone unnoticed, even in parliament. “Because of my constant advocacy for Kalanthuba Chiefdom, the Speaker always calls me ‘Kalanthuba.’ Parliament, including the Speaker, is very aware of the challenges here, and I promise that in the next budget, Kalanthuba Chiefdom will be remembered,” he assured.

Acknowledging the difficulties of being an opposition MP, Hon. Sesay emphasized his commitment to leaving a lasting legacy in the chiefdom. He announced plans to launch an aggressive campaign urging local chiefs to utilize Community Development Agreement (CDA) funds from mining companies for critical infrastructure projects like road construction.

Several stakeholders, including local chiefs, community leaders, and educational authorities, praised Hon. Jawah Sesay for his unwavering dedication to the development of Kalanthuba Chiefdom. Chief James Momoh Kamara lauded Hon. Sesay’s vision, stating, “This is a transformative initiative that will change the future of our children. Hon. Jawah has proven that he is truly the people’s representative.”

Mrs. Yabom  sesay, Tonkolili district council chairperson commended the parliamentarian, saying, “Education is the key to development, and Hon. Sesay’s efforts will open doors for many children in Kalanthuba. His commitment to education is exemplary.”

Madam jestina Turay in her vote of thanks also expressed gratitude, noting, “Hon. Sesay’s leadership gives us hope. His advocacy, not just in words but in actions, is commendable. We stand with him in building a better future for Kalanthuba.”

The event ended on a high note, with community members expressing excitement and gratitude for the much-needed educational infrastructure, which promises to shape the future of the chiefdom for generations to come.
