Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara (JFK), the All People’s Congress (APC) flagbearer aspirant for the upcoming 2028 elections, has criticized the current state of Sierra Leone’s economy, calling it “shameful and disgraceful.”

During a recent address, Kamara expressed his concerns about the economic hardships faced by citizens, emphasizing that the situation is unacceptable.

Kamara affirmed the struggles of the average Sierra Leonean, stating that many people cannot afford basic necessities, including food. He pointed out that civil servants are particularly affected, as their salaries are insufficient to meet their basic needs amidst rising inflation.

“The government is lavishing the country’s resources, and nobody is questioning them,” Kamara asserted. He urged citizens to hold the government accountable, stating, “It is high time we begin to query them.” He stressed the need for democratic change when the government fails to respond to the people’s needs.

In his statement, Kamara also addressed the ongoing energy crisis in Sierra Leone, noting that citizens frequently experience power outages and poor electricity quality.

He criticized the government for failing to repair damaged electrical components, which he believes contributes to the ongoing challenges faced by the population.

“When we look at the energy crisis, it is either there is no electricity, or we experience bad light,” he said, reiterating the need for accountability and change in governance.

Kamara concluded by urging APC members to connect with the people, stressing that the issues at hand extend beyond party lines and are fundamentally about the welfare of Sierra Leone as a whole.
