Joseph Albert Murray Musa, Public Relations Officer for the Kailahun District Traders Union, has responded to growing concerns over the poor conditions of the Kailahun Market.

In a recent statement, Musa acknowledged that the issues plaguing the market have been longstanding, predating the current leadership.

Musa emphasized that improving the market’s state requires more than just internal efforts. The inadequate management of the Lawah stream, which contributes to the market’s poor condition, needs urgent intervention from the district council and other relevant authorities. The market’s location, particularly its vulnerability during the rainy season, also exacerbates the problem.

The P.R.O. also voiced frustration with the collection of market dues, trade licenses, and taxes, which fall under the purview of external bodies, including the district council. Musa highlighted that key project, such as the bridge construction and the development of a modern market facility, are under the council’s jurisdiction.

Musa called for immediate action from the district council and humanitarian organizations to address these pressing issues. He urged the public to remain patient, assuring them that efforts are underway to resolve the market’s challenges.
