Some elderly members of the Lebanese Community in Sierra Leone have described the newly-formed Lebanese Union in Sierra Leone led by Abass Khazem as a “Social Club.”
According to an elderly member of the Lebanese Community in Sierra Leone, the so-called executive of the Lebanese Union is “undemocratic and have no legitimate mandate to govern… They are unelected officials and do not represent the Lebanese Community in Sierra Leone.”
He described some of them as small boys and hustlers.
According to sources, the Government of Sierra Leone and the Lebanese Embassy in Freetown do not recognize the hand-picked executive of the so-called Lebanese Union in Sierra Leone.
Since Samir Hassanyeh was brought down as President of the Lebanese Community in Sierra Leone, no democratic elections have been conducted by the Lebanese Community in Sierra Leone to elect a new national executive.
