In a profound demonstration of corporate social responsibility and religious harmony, Orange Sierra Leone has distributed assorted food items to eight churches across Freetown, Port Loko, Lungi, and Bombali in observance of the Christian Lent season.

The gesture, which has become an annual tradition for the telecommunications giant, reflects Orange Sierra Leone’s commitment to community support and religious inclusivity during significant religious periods. The donation was made to a diverse selection of churches, including Catholic, Protestant, and Evangelical denominations, aiming to reach as many congregants as possible with essential food supplies during this period of fasting, prayer, and reflection.

Speaking during a presentation ceremony at St. Anthony Catholic Church on Syke Street in Freetown, Orange Sierra Leone’s Director of Procurement and Supply Chain, Edward Sesay, highlighted the importance of generosity during Lent. He emphasized that Orange respects and upholds religious tolerance, noting that similar gestures have been extended to Muslim communities during their own holy observances.

“In this season where Christians deepen their spiritual connection, it is also a time for us to express kindness and share with others,” Mr. Sesay stated. “At Orange, we believe in extending love and compassion to all faiths. Supporting our Christian brothers and sisters during Lent is part of our broader commitment to community development and inclusion.”

Receiving the donation on behalf of the parish priest, Father Conteh expressed heartfelt appreciation to Orange Sierra Leone for selecting St. Anthony Catholic Church as a beneficiary. He remarked that the donated food items would strengthen the parish’s charitable outreach and support their pastoral mission during Lent.

“Generosity is central to our faith, and today Orange has exemplified that,” Father Conteh said. “These items will not only serve our members but also enable us to assist others in need.”
